Playing Catch-up

Hello family, friends, and extraterrestrial beings,
I have returned to this blog for the third time this weekend to finish catching up on the events of my life. Because there have been a lot of events, and not a lot of time, and a lot to catch up on. BUT this weekend was a good time to do so. See, I have been out of town a lot recently. Every weekend in February I made a different trip. Toledo, Barcelona with the group, Lisbon, and Granada. And while all of those trips were fantastic and amazing and fun, I haven't spent a lot of time in Valencia, and I don't have much longer here. I also have fallen behind on a number of things, this blog included.

So this weekend, I decided to stay home. I have trips to plan, Fallas officially starts next weekend, so that'll be crazy, I have stuff to clean and things to buy, and I just needed some down time. So Thursday I came home and I read and ate dinner and watched a movie, and went to bed really late, and then slept as late as I wanted to.

I woke up late on Friday morning and I wrote and did homework and watched TV, and relaxed. At 3:30 a group of us went to go see the Fashion Week shoots that were happening around the corner, but I think we got there at the wrong time, and there wasn't much to see, so then I came back and continued to work and chill for the afternoon. In the evening I went and bought some superglue and clothespins and fixed my shoes. Around 9 I went down to dinner, which was... interesting. So there was a party at the dorm, and I didn't go for lots of reasons (I had homework and stuff to do, it was a costume party and I lacked a costume, it cost money, it was very loud) but most other people did, and some people had, er, overindulged at the party, which made dinner... interesting.

In other news, after 2 months, the cafeteria food has gotten... repetitive, so I've been having a good time lately trying to fashion new dishes out of what they give us. My current plans involve a lot of putting meats on salads (or french fries, that was good) a lot of olive oil and vinegar, and occasionally sandwiches. And I'm actually quite having fun trying to figure out how to make food I eat every week more interesting.

So then I came home and watched a move and wrote and went to bed late again.

And then Saturday I woke up and went shopping. I still needed jeans, and, of course, my purse broke as well, so I went to find one of those. I also found out that I had to have travel plans for all of Spring Break planned by Monday, so I had a third stop at the train station. So much to do!

So I continued my search for jeans, which proved just as frustrating and fruitless as before, though apparently there are some vintage stores that have jeans, so I'll have to check those out at a later date. I did find a good purse, but my most successful venture was the train station.

It was actually quite funny, because this is my most complicated journey thus far. I have a full 4 days, so I am leaving early Thursday morning to go to Cordoba, then I'm going to Seville that night, then taking a day trip to Cadiz and back a day later, then going back to Valencia from Seville. And my Spanish is good enough to communicate that pretty clearly to the guy at the ticket counter, but what I forgot was that it is Fallas, which means that there was a random capoeira exhibition right outside the train station, and everyone was making noise and singing and playing music and shouting and there were firecrackers, and it was almost impossible to hear, so the guy and I are trying to complete this moldy complicated transaction, but we wind up doing half of it in mime or pointing at things, but I got my tickets, and then as a reward for a job well done (and putting up with jeans shopping) I got froyo.

 It was really good.

On my way back to the dorms I stopped off to hear the mascletà. What I discovered, however, was that the mascletà is significantly more crowded on Saturdays than weekdays.
I just couldn't get through.
I did find some where to watch it eventually, but I wasn't as close as I was earlier, and that makes a lot of difference. It was still really cool, but the best part is definitely being up close (and risking permanent hearing damage).  So then I went back and ate lunch and then worked on planning and homework and writing for the rest of the day.

And today has been in pretty much the same vein. I've done homework and written stuff, and cleaned my room, and generally chilled.

It may not have been the most eventful weekend, but I think it's what I needed. And with Fallas getting closer and Spring break looming at the end of this week, I'm sure I'll be glad for the rest!
